Vampire Weekend - “Contra”
After the highly regarded debut, Vampire Weekend was one of the most anticipated albums at the time. The album was the first ever to debut at #1 without any past or present ties to a major label. The vinyl release comes with a poster of the album cover. I read that this album was lyrically influenced off of The Clash’s Sandinistas! It’s fun to listen back and hear The Clash in these songs.The album is definitely more mainstream ready. They ditch some of their more organic sounds for electronic ones. Contra is a perfect follow-up to their debut.
